Super 14: Slightly better news for Bulls
The injury ravaged Bulls will have heaved somewhat of a sigh of relief on hearing that one of their stars will not be out of action for as long as initially feared.
Bulls team doctor, Tommie Smook, say's that, "The medial ligaments have been torn, but the cross ligaments were only strained.
"If the cross ligaments had also been torn, he would have been out of action between six to eight months, but now it's a case of between six to eight weeks. He won't need an operation."
The Bulls have suffered a crushing injury list with world class lock, Victor Matfield, and scrumhalf Fourie du Preez also on the long-term injury list.
It is likely that Harry Vermaas will be called up with even Richard Bands being suggested as a possibility. Bands, however, hasn't been seen on a rugby field since May 2005 so that seems a very long shot.
Bulls coach, Heyneke Meyer, may be reluctant to introduce his two youngsters, Adriaan Strauss and Chilliboy Ralapelle, into the maelstrom of Super 14 rugby so soon.
