Super 14: Gary Botha to lead Bulls

Gary Botha will lead the Bulls team that will face the Stormers at Newlands this Saturday in their second warm-up game.

Injuries to the two first choice captains, Victor Matfield and Fourie du Preez, has forced Heyneke to select an unlikely but very capable candidate to lead the Bulls this Saturday.

Of even greater concern for the Bulls team and their fans, is the fact that Fourie du Preez is almost certainly out for 6 weeks and Matfield’s chances of taking the field against the Cheetahs are growing slimmer by the day.

Botha has been appointed captain only for this game with Derick Hougaard as his deputy.

Marius Delport, Akona Ndungane, JP Nel, Dries Scholtz, Bryan Habana; Derick Hougaard, Neil Powell

Jacques Cronje, Danie Rossouw, Tim Dlulane, Francois van Schouwenburg, Bakkies Botha, Andries Human, Gary Botha (C), Jaco Engels

Justin Peach, Tonderai Chavanga, Piet van Zyl, Gus Theron, Egon Seconds; Naas Olivier, Paul Delport

David Hendricks, Hendrik Gerber, Justin Melck, Gerrie Brits, Henk Eksteen, Attie Winter, Schalk Brits (C), Dougie Wheatley.

damn good bulls team if you ask me.

ON PAPER I'd say offer the Stormers okies a blindfold and a last cigarette before they run out.

That backline looks damned awful. This is very obviously a Stormers B team of note with just the journeymen and dirt trackers getting a run. Hardly a warm-up match for the Stormers then is it?

I thought the purpose of these warm-ups was to give the squad a run.

Anyway, in Neil Powell the Bulls have a damned capable replacement for FDP. Very similar sizes and very similar style of play. Both in the Joost mode of Bulls scrummies.
Seems the Bulls is fast learning to not count the chickens too early.

I am not bashing them, but this is exactly the reason why I say it is much too early to speak of any relegation factors.

Some people are questioning the purpose of teh warm up games, but looks like the injuries occur even during practice.
i am with you davids.

on keo moaner basically said they do not want to risk springboks....

now i am sorry, then cancel the bloody games!!!!

what use is it to heyneke and the poor bastards taking the field agains the bulls if they are going to get donered? (sorry donner)

if i was heyneke i would have cancelled this match or tell the guys, go see the sites and sounds boys, we'll take the field at 5 so be sure to be there @ 4 latest hey!!

Ja PA, unless Moaner plans to use the 2nd stringers to hurt some more Bulls key players.

Glad to see Dlulane getting a run. Barring FDP, Big Vic and JOhan Roets this is effectively a Bulls A squad.
Ja Ja Donner!

What I find interesting is that Hougaard is the deputy. You watch this space, Hougaard will be the next big Bulls captain! Anyway, this is still a strong side, great to see Human is back again.

did you not punt hougaard to be one of the guys they should consider?

think i remember something like that, also since he wont be lost to the boks in the near future.
Right you are Pissant. I see Hougaard as a leader. When he's on fire the teams on fire. And I do think you should pick a captain that is not lost to the Boks, cause they're not going to play in this years CC.
Yeah, 'cause no-one in their right minds would ever pick young Hougie for the Boks again... He he he

(I love to stir)

I still seem to wonder if the guy who chose him the first time was in his right mind. :-)

Oh hell isn't he involved with the Sahrks again. Stirred or shaken?
Eish Rob

You're asking for it
I'll just ignore that comment Robd, coming from a Sharks man and all. I mean how much can you know about rugby if you still support them!
aldo, Donner - touche', okes.

I have no comeback to either of those.
