Super 14: Allister Coetzee coaching Cats

Rugby 365,, have released the new Cats logo, see left, and the following report.

And a new logo

The Cats started their preparations for the Super 14 on 2 January with a new assistant coach in Allister Coetzee, Jake White's assistant with the Springboks. And the Cats have acquired a new logo to go with their new identity.

Coetzee was a star scrumhalf for the old pre-unity SARU and has since established himself as a coach in his home Eastern Province and now with the Springboks..

Frans Ludeke will coach the Cats and Coetzee will assist him. Eugene Eloff was to have assisted Ludeke, but he has commitments to the South African Under-19 team for the World Championship in Dubai in March-April.

The choice of Coetzee as Ludeke's should benefit the Springboks as the majority of the Springbok backline players will be in the Cats group. This gives Coetzee the opportunity to work with these players for seven months ahead of the Tri-Nations and the 2007 World Cup.

The rest of the Cats management will stay exactly the same as the Lions management in the interests of continuity.

The manager is again Mac Hendricks, the Springboks logistics manager.

The Cats have also acquired new colours and a new logo, indicating their new existence as the Cheetahs hive off to form their own franchise.

Looks damn vicious!!! I hope their bite is as bad as their bark!
Where does that leave Allister Coetzee re the Boks and with JW getting international help?
Judging on the performances of the Boks JW can do without him and Smal.
snarling - my cats piece will be up later today...

look i think gert and allastair might not be the right guys to help jake, but him working with our first choice bok 9, 10, 13 and other squad members in 12 and 15/14 is a good thing, at least the vision and structures should stay the same with minimum interrutptions - players are too often exposed to 10 million different ways of playing.

I had this yesterday already!

Anyway, the Coetzee appoiuntment was made last year right after the EOYT and I've already written a piece saying that it's a good thing for Alistair to be coaching what is effectively a Bok backline at the Cats.

We're one ahead of the Rugby365 boys.

We'll have to wait and see exactly how vicious my beloved paper cats are this year, but things are looking good. The discontinuity of the attempted union with Bloem is gone and even the S14 team should be made up mostly of Lions players.
And if the umpires cheating can't save the Aussies and their fans racist taunting doesn't work then you know where to go....even their nature conspires to beat us!
I hope Jorrie can intercept, otherwise the Cats aren't gonna score a lot of tries!
Aldo jy vra alweer vir my....

With Wayne Julies, Jacque Fourie, John Daniels, Wylie Human, Ashwin Willemse, Conrad Jantjes, old man Grant Esterhuizen, Marius Goosen and young gun Earl Rose I don't expect that Jorrie will be doing anything but carry instructions to the skipper during breaks...

That said....he did play well against the Bulls in both games last year didn't he?
