Other Unions/ Teams: Llanelli will ban fan who taunted Lomu

By Mark Souster

LLANELLI SCARLETS vowed yesterday to track down and ban for life the spectator who confronted Jonah Lomu at Stradey Park and verbally abused the former All Black wing during the Celtic League game with Cardiff Blues on Monday.

The incident happened during the second half of Llanelli’s 32-13 win. The ball had rolled into touch when the fan, wearing a Scarlets shirt, picked it up and offered it to Lomu, only to throw it over the New Zealander’s head. He was also seen on television gesticulating at Lomu and acting in a threatening manner.

“We now have his photograph and that will go into the local paper and on to our website,” Stuart Gallacher, the Scarlets chief executive, said yesterday. “We urge anyone who knows him to come forward so we can identify him. When we do he will be banned for life from our ground. Jonah acted commendably in keeping his cool.”

Gallacher has written to the player to apologise for the incident and the club have pledged to review their stewarding policies. Robert Norster, the Blues chief executive, said: “We fully support Llanelli’s actions.”

The Ospreys have appealed against the 72-day ban imposed on Gavin Henson for hitting Alex Moreno, the Leicester prop, with his elbow during the Heineken Cup pool game on December 18. European Rugby Cup said a new hearing would be convened as soon as possible.

probably australian..........
