Volgens me.

Comments:
Kyk hoe kyk hy vir my......
Dit is weereens great nuus vir die Klein Karoo.
ah,

davids' favourite bank. or was it fnb?

Morning Guys

More to follow about KKNK. We might just have a Kamp staaldraad at the KKNK next year for all rugby supporters with its own venue, accommodation and Braairetaurant. Waiting for approval from Karen Meirin. will keep you up to date.

PA

Sorry man, but I really need to speak to you urgently again. Please!

well get of your phone then!
Kandas

Thought you wanted to speak to me too?

PA

They're all the antichrist. We're all waiting for a person or someone to step up and say :here I am the Antichrist...mwwwoooohahahah"

But these bank okes.....

ABSA: My bank is my overdraft worry

FNB: How can we screw you

Std: More Complex, Slower, Worse

Neds: Who are those people (Bank managers who got rich off the interest cahrged on our overdrafts and bonds)

PA,

Did you manage to email all those addresses?

Davids,

The banking system in SA needs a revamp. These guys are all in bed with each other and to top that with the long term insurers owning most of the shares. Very unhealthy situation for the man on the street.

ras its gone yes
Donner

And of course they also own the short trem insurers.

Santam / Absa / Sanlam

Just a matter of interest

How does Grahamstown compare to KKNK? My wife went to Grahamstown once and she said it was pretty damn hardcore. Not a place for anyone under the age of 25.

The year before we got married my wife and I were planning atrip to KKNK or Grahamstown, but seeing as I got her pregnant six weeks before the wedding, that plan fell down the tubes. Then of course in 2004 we were to busy to go away with me working in a new and shakey little business. And this year's just as out seeing as Mr. Clever managed to get the Missus pregnanat again and we now have two little children.

Obviously the plan is now a long term goal, but still in existence as a family excursion. Hopefully the woman can stay UN-pregnant long enough and the kids need to get just a bit older then we can come down, flying, cos there's no damned way I'm driving that distance with two littlies in a car.

Could I come down with the whole family in tow? What I want to know is if it can be viewed as family oriented?

Davids,

I think it will be definately family orientated. The KKNK runs for ten days and it will be unfair not to cater for a family.

I know that they have a creche specifically runningfor that period to enable the parents to attend the shows.

On the comparison between teh two festivals, I can't help you, but what I guess is that the Grahamstown is all languages while the KKNK focusses on Afrikaans.

I don't think Kandas wants to give too much info at this stage as it still needs to be approved. Don't want to get the cart infront of the horses.
davids,

it is defintately more family orientated than grahamstown. that said, you always have the knobs and students that over indulge at things like this.

if the excersize stricter control on the consumption of booze then it will improve a hell of a lot.

grahamstown on the other hand is very artistic. thus it borders on what some people view as art and others as riske.

you get a couple of hardcore art lovers in grahamstown and its basically everything goes.

for the family, kknk by a mile, for something different and weird, grahamstown.

Cheers guys

I love that part of the world and I have family in Mosselbaai and the wife has a friend who lives in Wildernis

It would be very cool for us to take a break with the littlies, although, as the family grows, plane tickets get steep.

pa

You're right about students and their ilk. Although I must concede I once belonged to that subhuman breed, I would not want my kids exposed to some loud mouthed drunken louts with an eye for screwing the waitresses and anything else that looks remotely like the opposite sex.

I don't react well to risque remarks concerning the wife and kids at all.

stay out of the beertents then! but the show itself is worth going to i promise!
Davids,

I don't think you will have to worry about that with what Kandas has in mind.

From what I heard in any case, is that the unwanteds are being rooted out very quickly not only by the authorities, but the other festival goers as well. For alot of people it is their Easter holidays and they don't want it spoiled by drunken assholes.

DavidS

I just know that you and your family will really enjoy the KKNK. Lots of serious discussions are also part of the daily programmes. Yes, you do get your assholes but, like PA said, there are ways to avoid them.

It would also be great to have you here.

PA

Did you get my replies?

Dagse Kandas.
Hallo Donner

Wassit met die Ferrari? :)

Donner

As jy 'n Ferrari Badge op 'n draadkar sit lek hy olie!

Donner

You said Honda has bought BAR?

The most underrated team in F1. They have the highest straightline speed. Now they need to get rid of that overrated Pommie git Jensen Button and teach Kimiko Sato that speed at all costs is not the most important thing, you actually need to think too.

Can't believe you still have a thingie for Schumacher after the year he had though!

OO,

Nie een van die twee nie.

Ek is nie 'n Ferrari fan nie.

OO,

dis amper so erg as om mclaren op papier te skry en die volgende oggend is daar net n olie kol op die papier.

Donner

kandas,

klaar ge reply.

davids,

agree one hundred percent, sato is the 21st century khamakazi, that boy has no brains. all pommies are git's.

and i am with donner, i dont support the team, i support the driver.

My vote is for Tata

Vodaphone has a deal with Vodacom that Vodacom is their SA partner. The Cheetahs and Bulls already have Vodacom sponsorship, together with Chiefs, Celtic and Pirates.

If Kandas reckons it's a newish multinational company trying to raise their profile in SA and Africa, my vote is for Tata or Sahara (sho have only been involved in cricket so far with limited exposure)

Kandas

I'll certainly look into it for Easter. Sounds like a plan.

Davids,

I would love them to put the drivers in the same spec car at the end of the season and drive an additional race. I can tell you Michael would still come up tops for the next ten years.

The young guys just don't have his calmness.

And everybody goes through a bad patch. WP is doing it, Bulls are heading there, Lions coming out of it, Sharks drowning in it and the Cheetahs, well who knows.

DavidS

Do not disregard the Ruperts in sponsoring the Spears as well- they just do not sell stuff for the man in the street( except twakkies)- or am I missing something

donner,

only difference is the sharks work in 100 year cycles.....

I've always driven Honda cars, so my support is for Honda as a team. They have driver and reliability problems though. Not surprising seeing as they have that Pommie git and Kamakaze Kimiko driving for them!

I do support drivers who are 'out there' like Juan Pablo and Kimi Sato though. Jon Alesi and Gilles Villeneuve were like that too. Guys who drive on the edge. The only one who was a champion who had a bit of emotion about him was Aeyrton Senna and I supported him too.

The champions are just boring. Schumacher was 'out there' at Benneton but his time at Ferrarri made him sensible, to my intense disappointment.

Michael Schumacher did not go through a bad patch his engineers did

Just look at the revamp at ferrari- red bull- because within two years they will be "one"

now his driving miss daisy..........
OO

Nog nooit vir Ferrari geskreeu nie.

My drivers vandat ek kan GP begin ondersteun het.

Jody Schekter
Niki Laude
Alain Prost
Michael Schumacher (and hopefully still for the next ten years)

I won't start on Michael, because then I will be here for the next week non stop.

glad to see you boys ar F1 fans too, now the obvious question is what football teams you support?
Well spotted PA
I am a Mclaren fan- that part of my sporting year was an absolute disaster

They choked huge- and i believe that the window will be closed in 2006.

I was really a sad day for me when Schumacher joined the Scuderia Ferrari- they are to me like Man United- to be admired- but they are not my team

lol PA - good one

Didn't they win their first CC final in their 100 anniversary year?

FS work on 30 year cycles it seems.

Neither WP or Bulls have ever stayed in a slump for very long though.

OO

Rupert money is everywhere. Maybe it'll be one of the car manufacturers based in that area. I'm sure Toyota and Mercedes and Nissan are based in that area, and Nissan hasn't sponsored anything since the old Nissan Shield One Dayers and Toyota nothing high profile since they sponsored the 1999 Protea cricket team.

Mercedes is sponsoring the Warriors cricket team at the moment (Mark Boucher and Makhaya Ntini's bunch - who reached the Pro20 final this year and got a Kemp Klap in the final against the Titans, although Kemp, ironically is also originally from the Eastern Cape)

Maybe Mercedes wants to extend their sponsorship.

lol @ donner

Is it simple coincidence that every one of the guys you support as drivers drove for Ferrarri?

OO

Martin Brundel said Ferrarri are the Manchester United of F1.

PA

Local or international?

Local is Buccaneers

International is Bayern Munich (the whole German thingie)

PA- on Fussball

Because I never will walk alone

Liverpool
Bayern
Eintracht Frankfurt
Bloem Celtic

Donner

in total agreement on that list of drivers- am a Mclaren fan however- but with Benz lurking- Hope the guys from Wolfsburg or Ingolstadt get involved

personally its the amakhozi and the gunners for me.

somehow wimbeldon also has a soft spot for me though

OO

Apparently they're trying very hard to get a majority stake in McLaren, but the Poms view the team as a national institution

On issues wrt family money & motorsport

This is from www.itv-f1.com/the mole

The Morgue at Mole Headquarters is a vault in which all the old case files are stored. This is presided over by a rather creepy individual named Schmutzli, who scares the Penelopes on a regular basis when they are doing research work.

The Mole, perplexed by goings-on in Germany, was down in The Morgue, pulling out files on the Porsche Family. The Porsche company has just announced plans to buy 20% of the giant automobile firm Volkswagen and alarm bells had started to sound.

The Mole wanted to investigate.

The Morgue is one of those places where one does not feel odd, talking to one self, if only, perhaps, to stop being frightened of Schmutzli's chicken-strangler eyes.

"So," The Mole said aloud to himself. "Porsche builds 88,000 cars a year compared to VW's five million. And it has sales of $7.7bn compared to VW's, um, $120bn. Blimey! That's a difference."

The profit figures were more interesting, however, with Porsche making $293m and VW only $923m.

"So Volkswagen builds 55 times as many cars as Porsche and makes only three times the profit. Hmm. Not very impressive."

The Mole did not for one minute believe the Porsche explanation for why it was buying Volkswagen shares and had concluded even before he finished reading the despatch from Stuttgart that it was all do to with the family.

The Porsches are a proud lot and clever too.

So clever in fact that the current chairman of Volkswagen is a member of the Porsche family. Ferdinand Piech is the grandson of Ferdinand Porsche, the man who originally went to Adolf Hitler with the idea of building cars for the people.

Hitler liked the idea of a "Volks Wagen" and the first Porsche-designed VW appeared at the Berlin Motor Show in 1936.

It never made it into production because of the war and afterwards Porsche and his son-in-law Anton Piech were thrown in jail by the French for having worked for the Nazis.

Porsche's son Ferry and his daughter Louise (Piech's wife) started a small factory in Gmund in Austria and built the Cisitalia Grand Prix car in order to raise the cash needed to buy their father's freedom.

Once that was achieved they decided to start building sports cars as they were no longer welcome in the post-war Volkswagen company.

But in 1949 Volkswagen chairman Heinz Nordhoff did something blindingly obvious and asked the Porsches to help him develop the original Volks Wagen design.

The result was the VW Beetle.

As part of the deal the Porsches negotiated a royalty on every single car sold and as VW would sell 21,529,464 of them in the course of the next 55 years the family did pretty well out of the deal, not to mention also gaining the VW concession for Austria, a tidy little business in its own right.

The money produced helped the Porsche family to expand their own car-making business, and in the early 1960s Ferdinand Alexander Porsche (Ferry's son) styled the all-important 911 which made the company so successful that by 1972 it was floated on the stock exchange, although the family still owns 76% of the firm, while also diversifying into real estate, watches, luggage, tennis rackets and, of course, the Austrian car dealerships.

"But obviously that is not enough," said The Mole to himself.

"The family seems to believe that VW owes everything to Porsche and want one day for that to be reflected in reality."

The purchase of 20% of the Volkswagen company comes at a time when Volkswagen is about to lose the support of the German state of Lower Saxony, which is being forced to sell its 18% share by the European Union.

If Porsche buys that share it will have 38% of the business and as Volkswagen owns 13% of its own shares would then be in a position to control VW.

And that would mean that one day, perhaps quite soon, Volkswagen could become a subsidiary of Porsche.

The Mole smiled.

It was a good plan and a better brand as well. Porsche is all about great engineering and design. Volkswagen is just about crunching out cars.

A sprinkling of Porsche magic on the Volkswagen company would create a serious rival to Mercedes-Benz and BMW, as their markets would inevitably soon be overlapping.

And that would give Porsche the incentive to take them on in the spotlight and beat them.

"And where would they do that?" muttered The Mole.

Formula 1 was the only answer. And The Mole could not help but think that for Porsche, there is an element of unfinished business in Formula 1 as well.

People may have forgotten that it was Porsche that built the amazingly successful TAG turbo engines of the 1980s for McLaren.

There may even be some people who have forgotten the horrible disaster that occurred when Porsche built its own V12 Formula 1 engine in 1990 and did a deal for Arrows to use it.

But you can bet that the Porsche Family has not forgotten that humiliation.

"It is unfinished business," said The Mole.

Just as Porsche wants control of Volkswagen, so Porsche will one day want to be back in F1, thought The Mole, if only to set the record straight.

PA

Also a soft spot for Liverpool.

isnt F1 being sold off as well, read it on news 24 i think.
Yip

There is a lot of Brit technology packed in Paragon- but then Mansour Ojjeh owns 30 %

I really hope Mclaren can survive the loss of newey & tombadzis- because they "were" the MP4/20

Davids,

I know, but only Jody Schekter was driving for them when I started supporting him. Laude and Prost in Mclaren and Michael at Benetton.

On football I usually suported Man United, but I am not onto the football that much anymore. Will rather watch tennis or gholf.

Yizz, but you guys read slowly on the Porsche thingy
The Germans DID build the Volkswagen Beetle design in WW2

They were changed for military use and called the Kubelwagen and Schwimmwagen (amphibian version)

Both were outstandingly successful and far superior to the Jeeps of the allies, even though they were not 4x4's.

Well that's according to my grandfather, who drove a white starred Kubelwagen over his Jeep throughout the Italian campaign. Apparently he sold the Jeep to some black marketeer so he could buy booze which was obviously short stocked.

PissAnt,

Ja I think Bernie Ecclestone is starting to feel the heat ewspecially after Indi this year.

Get the impression that Maxc Mosley and him doesn't always see eye to eye. Can't blame him. It must be bloody difficult to market a sport while the technical guys are making rule changes that is killing the sport.

I started supporting Schu when he was still with the Sauber Mercedes C1- with the red mirrors- partnering Karl Wendlinger & Heinz Harald Frentzen
Lauda was always in McLaren ,when they were still red and white.

Prost started off as a youngster with Renault though didn't he?

Donner

bernie is part of the CVC buyout- F1 will only be rid of him in person when he dies& afterwards his lawyers will run the show via proxy

BTW the only other person I do support at Ferrari is our local pharmicist, Rory Burne.
I understand the team owners, lead by Ferrarri also want a stake of Bernie's pie.

He also lost the court case where he tried to say F1 is a trade mark, so those okes with that pathetic A1 could start....

They're having the A1 as a street race in Durban in January. Not that I support A1, but I would love to watch a street circuit race.

Being a beetle man myself DavidS I agree wholly on the Kubelwagen- being a great tool
DavidS

What is the story of a "white Star" kubelwagen?

Davids

I think Laude did start driving for Ferrari. Didn't he have his accident at the Nurburgring in a Ferrari.

Only started supporting Prost at Mclaren

OO

I think Bernie doesn't want to be directly in teh spotlight anymore.

If you guys think the Poms are bad at talking rugby, have you ever spoken to one in connection with F1. They think it is a Poms birthright to be F1 cahmpion.

The Kubelwagen my grandfather 'procured' was painted in a khaki camoflage with a massive swastika on the bonnet.

Hardly the kind of thing you'd have wanted some character in a Spitfire flying over you to see.

So the Allied symbol was a solid white star in a circle. So they managed to 'procure' green paint, painted the Kubelwagen and painted a huge white star on the bonnet. Never got bothered.

My grandfather also insists he and his mates invented mugging and the Yanks took it back to America with them.

Apparently the British and Commonwealth soldiers were paid awfully because they were drafted whilst the Yanks, mostly volunteers were paid hansomely.

So Oupa hated the Yanks (still does) and said the best way to get money, which the Yanks had in abundance, was to wait in a dark alley and look nonchalant. In Oupa's own words:

"Sooner or later one of the Cocksuckers [his word for Americans] would stick his head in and ask 'Hey Buddy..gotta light?' Then we'd pull him in, moer him dik and steal his money and his cigarettes and lighters."

I do recall Murray Walker shamefully and spontaneously ejaculating into his trousers on international television when "Our Nige" finally won the F1 championship. . . . . . . in a Renault!

But of course, it was ACTUALLY a BRITISH Williams and not a French Renault at all.
Rasputin and all of you other experts.

I urgently need your suggestions on SA Players currently overseas who might be willing to come and play for the SWD.

You may post their info here or email me at kandas1@webmail.co.za. Need the info before tomorrow.

Thanks Guys!!!!

I can still remember how peed off Williams was when Reanult started supplying Benetton with engines.

You've probably had all the answers concerning KKNK. My brief twopence:
At KKNK happenings and shows are closer to one another. Lots of free shows and very much a carnival atmosphere in the centre of town. Expect temperatures of around 35-40 Celsius. Lots of camping sites.
GRAHAMSTOWN is much, much more arts orientated and the place to go for the real fundi (like my wife). Shows often far apart. Much better venues for drama etc. Expect night temperatures of 5-10 degrees or colder. Lots of accom in hostels.

Kandas is too busy to be stirred, even a little today
okay its on 10 posts!

You guys should be careful.

The Lions and Bulls are known for contracting FS players as much as the Sharks

And the Sharks and Lions (Backups to Hurter / Sephaka) are short on good front rowers at the moment.

You've already lost Guthro....

CJ could end up scrumming against you at some point....

No, sorry, Kandas, I don't know of any UK or Europe based players looking to return.

That is not to say that there aren't any, I'm sure there are probably loads who'd be happy to return if they were approached.

Have any of the other Keo muppets appeared?

I saw St Pete, GCC, Aldo and possibly Grrr I'm a Lion, anyone else popped up?

I thought we'd see Dawn here.

Kandas

You're leaving it terribly late aren't you?

Why don't you contact the sports agencies and find out from them?

A list of players would be a good start, and then you can start looking for players.

My understanding of Europe is that there's a transfer window period when players may take contracts with other clubs. The ZP and HC and French club championships are just getting to the mid beginning so I assume you'd be looking for players to start in about March or April when the European season starts to wind down.

By my reckoning you're actually going to have to do proper leg work and phone and talk to players and agents yourself.

Rasp

I told Dawn where we are and she did say she'd pop in

Yip DavidS

But at least the conveyor Belt is working-

Cheetahs had handled adversity well for 29 years- let see how they will handle 2005's success in 2006.

The Vodacom money is welcome- it seems that Rassie will try to keep his team, rateher than let go and buy-

On CJ- well everyone has his price- but let see- maybe the vibe in the camp is so good- alot of the peregrine players do not fit in well with their new pozzies- ea gerrie Britz

The defection of Theo Oosthuizen with the 9 Shimlas to the guppies will still hurt us in years to come.

but right now i am still celebrating

DavidS

These players are just additional options and we are already working towards the CC 2006. Just need some names to present to the new coach tomorrow. :)

Will tell you all about that later.

OO, never mind the amount of Shimlas that gapped it to join Andre Bester at Rotherham. Sheesh, must be about 6 or 7 there as well.
Greetings Ouens,

Man this is excellent, I posted earlier today but I think it did'nt go through.
Anyhow atleast now i can wish all you guys a merry x-mas and a fantastic new year.

I see there are some Formula1 fans about.

I think PA has a massive list of people that are overseas that you could contact to speak to.

But those will just be names.

David, I posted a massive list of names on Keo.

As you say, it will require someone physically calling them and getting the word around.

The news would spread quickly from there, I'm sure.

Kandas, have you guys asked your current squad if they know any of the overseas players?

Yes, we are following up those leads as well.
